The objective of this application note is to demonstrate how Photopette® Cell can be used to quantify the amount of ethanol in beverages on the example of wine. Alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) is an enzyme that catalyzes the oxidation of ethanol to acetaldehyde. At the same time, an equimolar amount of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) is reduced to NADH. The amount of NADH produced is directly proportional to the alcohol concentration in the sample [1]. The produced NADH is measured by its absorbance at 340 nm.

This application note provides an easy and fast enzymatic assay to quantify lactate in biological samples such as serum, plasma, urine, cell culture/fermentation media or in food & beverage products using Photopette®.

Dal contains proteins and dal with high protein content is preferred. A method to access the dal quality in the field, when purchasing dal from the farmer is needed. Spirulina is a microscopic and filamentous cyanobacterium. It is promoted as a ‘superfood’ that contribute to high energy levels. This application note provides an easy and efficient experiment to determine the biomass in Spirulina cultures by photometry.
Yeast cell counting at OD600. Almost no training is requited. The method is easy and fast performed at the brewery or in the cell culture hood. Yeast can be directly measured at 600 nm in the cell culture flask. The method can be performed at any location and does not require a lab.
